I discovered the Colovray outdoor pools in Nyon last summer and they've been one of my go-to spots for a sunny day on Lake Geneva ever since. If you're looking for a summer plan that doesn't require driving for hours, this is one of the best options in the region. Here's everything you need to know.
Where is the Colovray Sports Centre
The Centre Sportif de Colovray sits right on the shores of Lake Geneva in Nyon, about 40 minutes by car from Lausanne and 20 minutes from Geneva. It's very easy to reach — take the A1 motorway (Nyon exit) and head towards the lake. By public transport, Nyon train station is a 10–15 minute walk away. And if you arrive by boat, even better — the approach across the lake is spectacular.
The complex includes football fields, tennis courts, an athletics track, beach areas, and of course the outdoor pools. But what really makes it worth it is the location — you're swimming with a view of Lake Geneva and the Alps.
Prices and Opening Hours — What You Need to Know
The Colovray pools (Piscines de Colovray) are run by the city of Nyon and prices are quite reasonable by Swiss standards. Typical costs:
Adult: CHF 7 for a day
Children (6–18 years): CHF 3
Season pass (full summer): CHF 160 for adults
Free for children under 6
Buy tickets online: piscines.nyon.ch
Opening hours vary by season — they usually open in May and close in September, running daily from 9am to 7pm or 8pm during peak months (July and August). Always double-check the official Ville de Nyon website before going, as hours can change due to weather or maintenance.
What Makes This Place Special
There are many outdoor pools in Switzerland, but Colovray has something different. The Olympic-sized pool (50 metres) is fantastic for serious swimmers, but there are also leisure areas with a slide for children and a separate kids' pool. The surrounding lawn is huge — plenty of room to spread your towel without being on top of your neighbour, which in Switzerland is already a luxury.
For me, the highlight is the view. You're swimming with the lake right next to you, boats passing by, and the French Alps in the background.
Practical Tips to Make the Most of Your Visit
Arrive early on sunny days — especially weekends, the car park fills up fast.
Bring food and drinks — the on-site restaurant is basic and prices are higher.
The area has plenty of trees, so you don't need to worry about bringing sun umbrellas.
Is It Worth It?
Yes, absolutely. If you live in the Lake Geneva region or are passing through Nyon, the Colovray pools are an excellent summer plan. It's not a water park with giant slides and artificial waves — it's a classic outdoor pool with the advantage of a prime location and affordable prices by Swiss standards.
If you've recently arrived in Switzerland and are still discovering what to do on sunny days, this is one of those places that should be on everyone's list.
